Welcome & Pre-Assignment

Welcome to AP Government!

I'm genuinely looking forward to our semester this year.  I love Government & I think that you'll find it impacts us on a daily level in a way that is unlike most other subjects in the school's curriculum.  I hope that by the end there will be parts that you'll wish to investigate as well.

You do have a pre-assignment.  It must be completed by the first day of class.  Do yourself a favor and space it out throughout your break--cramming it in the night before class or the morning of will be no fun.

Here is a list of things to do:
  1. Come to my room BEFORE the end of finals (135a--by the Ag rooms) to pick up two books for this class:
    • Lowi (Its Yellowish)
    • Lanahan (Its Blue)
  2. Introduce yourself to me so I can mark you off my list and introduce myself.
  3. Take this survey.  Be honest to the best of your ability.  It won't take long.
  4. View this OneNote file.  Create one of you own using SkyDrive (click "Add document" and find "OneNote".  Play with it until you can replicate what I made.  Email me if you are stuck...I check my email a lot.
    • your email url is now: outlook.com/student.linnmar.org
    • Your email address is the SAME as before (@student.linnmar.org)
    • Your password is the SAME as you use to login to the computer
    • No matter what sort of sign in screen or pop up you get, try it.
  5. Share your OneNote file with me (cmcdonald@linnmar.k12.ia.us)...you can do this by pressing "file" and then "share" and then finally "share with people".
  6. Over the Winter Break (TWO WEEKS!!!) you'll need to complete assignment linked here on your "Pre-Assignment" page of your OneNote file.
    • Hint: You can "ctrl-C" and "ctrl-V" the assignment's questions onto the OneNote so you don't have to type it in.
    • Feel free to experiment with OneNote to get to know it a little bit better---different font, color, photos or whatever are encouraged throughout this class...let alone on these first few assignments.
  7. Go to my website to download the Big List
  8. Pay attention to any political news over the Holiday that you can....We'll be talking about it.

See you Tuesday Jan. 7th!  I look forward to reading your survey's and your Pre-Assignment answers as they come rolling in over the break!
